My family has been selling turkeys since 1946.  Between 1946 and 1960, folks would drive out to our farm to buy fresh turkeys.  Interestingly, my grandfather was the first to market an oven ready turkey with the feathers and head removed.  Others in the industry laughed at him but he believed that people would want to buy his product, and he was right.  His oven ready turkey was a success, people were eager to buy his turkeys.  In 1960 we opened our first store and our current location opened in 1972.    

Over the past 71 years we have created a reputation for being the turkey experts.  Although I may be somewhat biased, I believe that the reputation is well deserved.  The Keller siblings work each day in the stores and they grew up on the turkey farm, so they know everything you could ever want to know about turkeys.  My aunt has a master’s degree in poultry science and she can answer any questions you have about any kind of poultry.  There are not very many retail stores that have a poultry scientist on staff. 

Our turkeys are fresh from the farm, humanely raised with plenty of fresh air and exercise.  Our turkeys are fed a well-balanced diet.  They are processed in a clean inspected plant.  Commercial turkeys are injected full of chemicals and flavorings to mask poor quality.  When you sell good quality products like we do, you don’t have to add anything.  We never add preservatives, MSG, sodium nitrate, sodium nitrite, fats, oils, water, or butter flavored chemicals.  The only ingredient in our turkeys is turkey. 

When you come into Keller’s we will help you select your turkey.  We recommend 1-1.5 pounds per person for each meal.  If you have heavy eaters or want leftovers you need to add on from there.  Our fresh turkeys will keep for up to five days in your refrigerator.  If you are planning on serving a turkey for Thanksgiving or Christmas we recommend that you pick up your turkey early and keep it refrigerated so that you don’t have to wait as long.  We also carry frozen turkeys that have been immediately frozen after harvesting.  We do not hold them in cold storage and you can keep them in your freezer for up to 6 months.  You can thaw a frozen turkey in your refrigerator for 2 days or you can thaw it in COLD running water or COLD water that is changed frequently.  For information about preparing your Keller’s turkey please see my video or our holiday entertainment guide

Whole turkeys are generally not available smaller than 11 pounds.  If someone offers to sell you a whole turkey smaller than 11 pounds it will likely not be a good value.  There will be more bones than meat and it will not be good quality.  If you have a small family and you simply do not need 11 pounds, we are happy to provide you with a half a turkey, turkey pieces (breasts, thighs, legs, or hindquarters, or a boneless turkey roast.  Our turkey roasts are simply turkey that has been deboned and tied in a net.  There is nothing added.  These products are perfect for smaller families.  They are relatively fast and simple to prepare.  For information about preparing these small family feasts please see our holiday entertainment guide
